International Concord banner

Motto: "Post tenebras lux"

Special work: International relations

Location: This lodge meets at Hexagon House, the Headquarters of the British Federation.

Meetings: Eight times a year minimum, on Saturday afternoons.

History: In May 1943, Lodge International Concord No. 977 was founded in London. The intention was to provide a haven for those Masons who were no longer able to continue living or working in their own countries, and who came to England for succour as well as a chance to continue practicing their Masonry in freedom. Those present at the occasion wrote of the strangeness of working to the accompanying sound of air-raid sirens. Lodge membership was extremely varied, ranging from a Tibetan monk to Polish army officers and all points in between. The international mixture and consequent difficulties in communication must have demanded equal measures of humour and patience. The lodge continues to be a harmonising force in international relations and many languages will be heard at its festive board!

* Previously known as the International Order of Co-Freemasonry.
